Do you know what is MAD about MARCH?!?!
Well, I'll tell ya. It is completely insane that one can go for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and do terrific!! Absolutely fantastic!
Working out everyday.
Eating veggies and fruits like mad.
Drinking one's weight in water.
Getting good rest.
Reading scriptures - with a purpose I might add.
No sugar.
No soda.
No biggie sized anything.
Yadda, yadda, yadda, yadda.....
then comes the weekend. I head to Tennesee. to the land of my birth. to the home state. to the hills and acres of farmland. to the Nanna's house. to the endless supply of Doritos and hostess cakes. to the home of biscuits and gravy where eating the gravy plain by the spoonful is a normal occurance. to the twilight zone for all dieters. oh, you can enter and you may even come out alive, but you will NEVER be the same. the same size that is.
It is a 3-hr drive from my house to Nanna's house, and I usually don't stop but this time I had to a couple of times. The first stop was to get the kids an after school snack. Well, I'm thinking Arby's (just kidding, I wouldn't do that). I did Sonic. I wanted to make it fast, so I was just going to order the first thing that I saw on the menu - but not Cheddar Peppers. (They are my fave but oh soooo bad!!) So what did I order, well Chili Cheese Tator Tots folks. Uh, yeah.... Every other bite went from "Oh, how can I eat this?" to "I should have ordered extra cheese." to "This is so bad for me." to "Why doesn't this have more cheese?" to "It makes me want to vomit just thinking about this pumping through my veins." to "Seriously, I NEED more cheese!" and on and on until I was practicly licking the little paper dish/bowl/plate clean. "But, no I don't want a Route 44 with that. I'll have water. I have a figure to maintain - puh-leese!"
Then the next stop took me to CVS where I had to grab some medicine for my sick little girl. Well, after those chili cheese tots I had to have some sweets (for the kids of course). Actually, I was getting way tired and still had 2 hours left to drive and needed something to munch on and send sugar through my veins. I also needed peanut butter. (Everyday almost on the dot, I have an apple with low-fat peanut butter and I swear my body is conditioned to this snack. I crave peanut butter everyday at 3 o'clock.) So, I grab those Reese's peanut Easter eggs (the small - ok medium sized- but not the big ones. What do you take me for?). These are my FAVORITE Easter snack. I also grab a bag of Sweet Tart gummy rabbits. I'm still not sure if I showed the kids either of these bags.
I wish I could say that was the end of my really bad eating hour, but it went on, and on, and on. Almost all weekend you could find me putting something in my mouth. I did sometimes make the healthy choice, but mostly I was just shoving. So bad. I came home and weighed 2 pounds heavier. Totally not worth it.
Why do we think it will be worth it? Why do we think the thrill, satisfaction, pleasure, or sensations we recieve from pigging out on whatever we want will be worth the consequences? I'll tell you why - it is because WE DON'T THINK ABOUT THE CONSEQUENCES! We are too busy sniffing fried foods or licking chocolate off our fingers to think about the way our sides gush over our jeans or the way our arm jiggles when we wave hello. It's just MADNESS!
One slice of pie = 4 miles of running.
One order of medium fries = 15 miles of biking.
One container thingy of chili cheese tots = jamming arteries and bubbly booty.
DON'T BE MAD! DON'T SUCCOMB TO MARCH MADNESS AND HIT THE TATOR TOTS!!
Be healthy. Be confident. Be in charge. Be smokin'!
head pops,
bonnie

Awesome, Bonnie. My March Madness has been great. I have finally kicked the sugar habit. I have a full supply of Easter Candy in my cupboard, oreos, and doritos because "they were on sale." They are unopened thank you very much. My new running shoes are getting lots of mileage. I bought a size 4 skirt on Saturday which I was so happy. I haven't seen a size 4 in my closet for about 12 years. Thanks for the inspiration. Hearing about your weekend made me laugh. James was worried you had turned into a hard core health chick. I'm glad to see that you get weak sometimes too. Thanks for the support and encouragement.
I'm just completely mad at myself for all the behaviors I've been giving into (easter candy, including lots of the little peanut butter eggs, way too much Diet Coke) and the ones I've been neglecting (exercising, getting in my vegetables, etc. etc.) I've pretty much done everything I shouldn't. AND IT'S NOT BEEN WORTH IT! I'm mad enough that I'm going to change things!
Hahahaha! I wondered what you were stirring in that big metal bowl when I came to your mom's. Something chocolatey perhaps? A dessert of some kind? Seriously, do you think that the chili cheese tots are any worse than cheddar peppers??? (That is a real question, not to be read sarcastically.) I too, spent time up in McMinnville, eating Mexican food, drinking Sun Drop (it was diet!), and when I got home, I fully expected to weigh five pounds more. But, I had actually lost a partial pound while I was there. AND I didn't eat any easter candy! By the way, I am glad to know you are still human.
Julie says this:
I have been on the "I don’t care train, unless I lose a point" Mind you, there is no point loss for eating the whole house. It hasn’t included sugar or pop, and has helped with getting in all the freggies, but it has included everything else and large portions at that. So now I am almost back to where I was- 4 pounds up in 2 weeks! Time to get MAD!
Julie
You're so funny! I know what you mean about the weekends though. We went to the cheescake factory for lunch on Saturday. I gotta tell ya the Oreo mudslide cheescake is to die for. Don't worry, I didnt eat the whole slice. i shared it with my dear hubby. But then we went out to dinner with some friends that night, then out to dessert at the intermezzo...oh so good. The hot chocolate menu was delightful and did I mention the dessert bar where a tour guide actually walks you through it explaining every piece of cake they have? But don't worry, I couldnt finish my big cup of hot chocolate and after two or three bites of Tirimisu, I was done. So full. So my point is, although I wasn't counting calories this last weekend, I couldnt put the food away like I used to. My tummy has shrunk. I get so sick if I eat more than I am used to. Thanks to smokin hot mommas I have lost 11 lbs since Jan and maybe 3 or 4 inches. I am feeling great, and doing it all on my own. NO GYM. That's right, old 80's workout dvd's, walking out in this nice weather...it's all done wonders for me. Heck, I even stopped going to aerobics class on Tues & Thurs. I actually haven't had the car to come, but maybe soon. The thing is, anyone can do it on their own. You don't need no stupid gym. I am proving to myself that it can be done on your own. So I am grateful for the SHM's club because it motivates me everyday to work my hardest. I don't even care about being the winner at the end. I just want to do the best I can do.
I LOVE IT HEATHER!! (and I have missed you at aerobics!)
You are totally right though -YOU CAN DO THIS ON YOUR OWN!!
While I love winning and that's how I got motivated to do everything I do in one day. I have really been able to put that aside and win or lose be able to say no to sugar, which is my biggest weakness. My snack would be a sweet and then I had to have something sweet after lunch and dinner. I have found that only having one day to eat sweets I carefully decide what it is I want and it helps me to not buy all that junk I see as I'm walking around the store and it's screaming "buy me don't I look so tasty"! I resist so much better now because it just isn't worth having on that one special day. Thanks so much for helping me get to that point.
I feel your pain! I was there, literally, a few weeks ago. TN is a dangerous place for dieters. I crave the weirdest things when I'm there--things that would NEVER even cross my mind otherwise. Sonic, Cap'n D's. Are you KIDDING ME!?! I might as well just drink the grease straight up.
As for all of Mom's and the Grandmas' cooking, though, that's another story. I'd eat that stuff anytime, anywhere. You know what I'm talking about!
Anyhow, I'm finally back on track and heading in a healthier direction.

bonnie, that's too funny. I took the kids to sonic last night 'cause Tony's out of town and I wanted a cheeseburger or a chili pie so bad, but somehow, I held out! :) It was hard though. Then this morning I read this. Ha!!! We are all in the same battle. :)
