I know this email is a day early, but the kids are out with Dad on a bike ride, and I am on my bed icing my knee that got messed up somehow last week while jogging in the freezing-butt cold. (sorry Mom) Anyway, it is quiet so I am writing.
I went on a 12-mile run today because I think I am training for my first MARATHON and that is what is on the schedule. I haven’t totally committed yet, but the training is already up and going so I have to be too. We are finally enjoying a beautiful day outside, and I went running with my sister Emily and a good friend Karen. (They are the ones that did the Disney MARATHON and they kept going for another 4 or so after I left). But back to my one word:
CHAFFING!!
So I learned a few things on this long run. First, this was the second time in my life that I have ran that far and it went well. The first was in my ½ MARATHON that I did in Oct. And now today. But, today I actually did better and was able to run the last mile at a good clip to finish it off. The first time I was lucky to have one foot fall in front of the other and it still be considered a run. The second thing I learned is that some of my “running callouses” are gone. Like the ends of my toes, and the lovely (I didn’t know this existed until today) arm-pit callous. I run in those razorback tanktops usually and since it has been so cold I haven’t been wearing them and my time on the trail has decreased considerably in the last couple of months. So today at about mile 4, I could totally feel right at the back of my underarm getting chaffed when my arm swings back and forth. I had this problem some last year and just jellied it up with vaseline or something before I went and then I think I just got kind-of a callous there or something after a while (totally sexy huh?). But no more callous today! Man it stings!
Well, if that was the only chaffing then this would not make for a very good email. So, I’m glad (really?) that my body has sacrificied itself in order for me to have good email material. So let me tell you when I got in the shower after the run….screams! Yes….screams! Hot water and freshy worn skin make for much burning and discomfort. So the last three things I learned
today are- 1. I have many pouchy patches that rub together when they should not. 2. When you are sweaty (which I am) this makes for a majorly bad combo. 3. The next time I do 8 miles or more I am going to jelly-UP!! People are going be saying “Here comes Jelly Girl! Look how shiny and slick she is! I have to wear my sunglasses just to protect myself from all the glare coming from her super- jelled- super- glide body!”. (I swear they will say that exact thing!)So, I’m glad my husband and kids were out because I’m screaming in the shower when the hot water hits my underarms, my right forearm that got rubbed by my ipod arm band the whole way, the spot right on my sternum where the middle of sports bra hits, my inner thighs (dude these were the loudest screams) and yes, I will admit right where by butt checks meet (so every time I walk – yep you guessed it.). DISGUSTING!
(sorry for those of you who have just joined the group and aren’t fully used to tell-all emails – although I will say this is the worst- so sorry). Also, I’m glad they were out of the house because then I’m totally walking around with no towel yelling “where is the vaseline?!” “Where is the blasted Lanoline at least?!” So now I smell like a nursing mom again because Lanoline is what I found and now it is coating quite a large percentage of my body.
Body Glide. Body Gel.
Jelly Girl. That will be me.
So let’s get rid of those chaffable spots. Let’s get rid of those pouchy patches that love to rub together when no one (or everyone) is looking. Let’s be lean! Let’s be calloused because we are working so dang hard!
And let’s be Smokin”!!
Whether you are running ½ a mile or ½ a MARATHON keep on trucking and don’t forget the jelly!!
IF YOU HAVE NOT SENT IN $$$$ FOR FEB PLEASE DO SO ASAP!
It is $3 a month and you can pay up to 3 months at a time.
BURN and EARN LADIES!! Get those sports bras sweaty!
Eat those veggies!
Conquer those fat jeans!!
Clapping but not hard because of the arm pits (ouch),

Haha, I am so glad I am not the only one who has the chaffing problem, the only place I get it is...yep...the butt cheeks. I went for a very long walk with Dax yesterday, and today i am feeling the pain down there. Thank goodness for his medicated diaper rash cream. That really does the trick. Sorry to hear you have it in the armpits as well. That sucks. I agree, that we just need to work those areas more and get them used to the rubbing together...soon, they won't rub together YAY! ha! Funny! We did 3 more for 15 and I feel awesome. It was nice to go a bit faster. You girls will make me less of a penguin. I use Aquaphor (water-based, washes off easy) and haven't chaffed for a long time. It's good stuff. I get so lubed up, I'm always surprised my sports bra doesn't just shoot up over my head.
The screaming in the shower creates a great echo!!! Been there done that....I feel your pain. Lube up its worth it! Way to go on the run.

Very Funny Bonnie about the chaffing. I discover a long time ago that spandex is a very good and CLOSE friend. they have some very nice breathable ones that make wearing sleeves bearable during the heat down hear. And remember that wearing spandex makes us look smokin!
A short update on my ME moment for last weeks challenge!!
I took my 18 year old daughter to Miami South beach for a speedskate weekend and had a blast. Not quite the size 2 I use to me, but after 4 kids and 40+ years I feel pretty good! We did 3 hours of Cardio/Skating on Friday and 5 hours of Cardio/skating on Saturday so the weekend rocked!! And being in South Beach just made it even better!!
I even managed to do 1 hour of strength on Saturday with the pilates stretch and workout room.
And for those of you that know Katy (she turned 18 in miami), be sure to ask her about the hot Italian waiter that sang to her as he fed her the birthday dessert! It was SMOKING!!
